Sebastian Alabaster interogates the instability of the world around him, drawing from the systems that perpetuate society as his material. Dissecting the construction of the world that surrounds us, his practice displayes this fundamental tension between cohesion and collapse.
Honest and unfiltered, he draws upon the long lineage of the 'Sublime' as a tool for exploring this relationship. 'Growing up all that I believed to be stable has changed, modernity has forced us to recalibrate our respective position to society at an ever increasing rate', he remarked.
His works have been exhibited in the Royal Academy, and his art has been featured in media publications including the Courtauldian, the Art Thread, and Clast Magazine. Currently studying at Camberwell College of Arts, he is the recipient of the Ethereal Maison Residency for the Venice Biennale. He is co-founder and co-curator of Morisot, a boutique London-based theory-driven curatorial agency. His last exhibition, ‘Imaginary Possession’, exhibited both Gabriel Campbell's and Sebastian Alabaster's work at Greatorex, an artist-led project space. The artist has a forthcoming talks program with both the Courtauld and the Warburg whilst he is currently preparing for exhibitions in Venice with CREA
